Don’t you find it odd that the Republicans in Congress were running at an 18 to 25% approval rating over the past two years, yet they were the politicians that so many voters ran too, to take control of Congress. Obstructionism has it’s allure, as does oblique racism.

It troubled me that as soon as the President took office in ’08,   just about all Republicans and some Democrats took to referring to the President as Obama, rather than President Obama.  The disbelief that a black man had been elected President was starting to rear it’s ugly head.

The extension of that came when the Affordable Care Act was un-affectionately dubbed “Obamacare”.  I wonder if his name was Meltz or Smith if the name change would stick.  The coincidence that Obama rhymed with Osama was not lost on the Republicans.

I am trying to be an objective observer, but I cannot in all good faith, ignore the fact that this President has many accomplishments during his two terms, yet no one in his party would embrace him to help them in their mid-term elections.  He became a Pariah in his own party.

Even the perceived acceptance of racism takes it’s toll eventually.  Has this ebb and flow of racism contributed to the recent spate of police shootings of unarmed black men and youths?  We may never know, but we will be watching to see how this racial involvement in politics evolves.
