If there is anything the last few years have shown us, it is that the Federal Government needs to implement changes, so that it may function effectively, justly, and in the interests of the American people. I point to five areas that need to be reviewed and strengthened, in order to initiate a stronger, more responsive, and accountable Federal Government.
We need to strengthen the enforcement powers of Congress to compel people subpoenaed to appear, and if they do appear and lie or plead the Fifth, there should be just consequences.
There has to be limits to whom may be granted a Presidential pardon. Relatives, friends and prior acquaintances should not be eligible to receive a Presidential pardon.
We have to strengthen Federal controls over Gerrymandering and other pre- election maneuvers designed to give one party or candidate an advantage over the other.
Review and use a common sense approach to limit political contributions to a campaign, by individuals or entities, and implement full disclosure.
Re-establish the guidelines for what political contributions may be spent on and what should happen with funds post election. Robert J. Bender
