Steve Forbes was on CNBC this morning spouting his usual mantra about how eliminating tax cuts for the wealthy is actually a tax hike for the middle class. He is reviving the trickle down theory that all good things flow from the wealthy and that to tax them actually creates less wealth for the middle class.
To support his claim he invoked the name of Abraham Lincoln. He claimed Lincoln said and I quote " you don't level the playing field by destroying those who provide jobs or are willing to create new jobs". He went on to quote Lincoln, " you don't help people who are striving to get ahead by hurting those that are investing and creating jobs".
The one true quote that comes to mind is the one that Lincoln delivered in his First Annual Message to Congress on Dec. 3, 1861.
"Labor is prior to and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could not have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital and deserves much the higher consideration".
None of the good intentions of the party on the right will ever be realized as long as they continue to deceive and misinform the public.
